06 Mar Poem: Vibrant Vegetables (at the Ashland Growers Market)
Vibrant Vegetables
(at the Ashland Growers Market)
How many people these days
meet a farmer face to face?
A farmer who has prepared the soil,
planted the seeds,
pulled the weeds,
mothered tender plants,
harvested at peak flavor,
then appeared in person
embodying all of that patient passion.
Passion for the earth,
for its potential bounty.
Passion through the endless patience required
to nurture from seed to harvest.
Passion even for me, for I will receive
A health-boosting smile
and kind words
to accompany the health-boosting
nutrition
of vibrant vegetables
Co-created each season, each day of toil,
as the farmer collaborates with the Creator of All.

Posted at 14:41h, 06 MarchNice poem Peter, spoken like a true farmer!! We plant a small vegetable garden each year and it’s always a treat to harvest our veggies grown with love. Our tomatoes always taste so much better than what we buy in the grocery store. I’m always jealous of a real farmer who reaps their tomatoes weeks before we do!! We sometimes cheat and buy fresh tomatoes at the growers market!! Nothings beats a fresh garden tomato!!

Posted at 15:05h, 06 MarchTammi,
My wife and I also grow tomatoes in our home garden. However, I find the fresh-picked tomatoes at the Growers Market to be just as good — and sometimes better — than the ones we grow. What a great gift we have to be able to buy from local farms!
